Voltage drop, explained for property owners

Every low-voltage landscape lighting run loses some voltage between the transformer and the far fixture. The longer the wire run and the smaller the wire gauge, the more voltage is lost on the way. When the far fixture sees less than 11.5 V instead of 12 V, it dims, flickers in cold weather, and shortens the lamp's life.

The industry standard is to keep voltage drop under 10 percent. Hitting that target is engineering, not magic - your installer picks wire gauge, splits the system into hub-wired zones, and chooses the transformer tap to land voltage in the right window. The Luna Nova voltage-drop calculator at /tools/voltage-drop does the math live; ask your installer to walk through it with you at commissioning.
